Our business story starts back in the early 1970's when Margaret Unger, our founder and name sake , started making curtains for family and friends. By 1974 the business name was registered and the talented seamstress was growing busier every year. Husband Henry, a carpenter, was doing the measuring and installing. Within a couple years there were employees and the business was outgrowing their home. In 1987 the sewing room was moved to 299 Main Ave., downtown Plum Coulee, Manitoba, Canada.

In 1989, son Randy & wife Heather came home to work in the business with them. In 1991 Henry & Margaret retired and the next generation of Ungers made their mark in the custom window covering business in southern Manitoba.

Plum Coulee is centrally located in the Pembina Valley about 120 km. southwest of Winnipeg. Business is operated as an in home consultation service, so all sales calls are conveniently done in the customer's home. We cover an approximate area of 120 km. from Plum Coulee.

All fabric home decor is made by our local seamstresses in that same sewing room that Margaret used. We have four wonderful ladies that we rely on for consistent, quality workmanship. Combined they have over 40 years experience with Margaret's Draperies.

Our strong relationship with Hunter Douglas Window Fashions goes back over 25 years, we know and trust their blinds, shades, & specialty products.

Randy & Heather Unger start and complete each window treatment with their personal and expert service and installation. We would like to invite you to view our site and enjoy our trade.

Staff and Services

Margaret's Draperies Ltd. offers our customer the service of in home consultation within a 120 km. radius of Plum Coulee, Manitoba.  We are centrally located within the heart of the Pembina Valley.  Our van is loaded with samples making us a drapery & blind store on wheels.  We bring the product selection, choice of colors, patterns, & textures right in the space where it will eventually hang with grace.  Let our years of experience in the industry guide you to making the right choice for you and your family.  We will quote the products for you and you can expect us back around a month later to install everything just so.  This is a service that everyone enjoys!  Assistance in making the right educated decision and then the comfort of knowing that it will be installed professionally.  You can also feel good that your drapery has been sewn with care by local seamstresses with many years of experience.

Lisa Nickel started her training with us in 2004 and she is fitting in great here .  Lisa is young and her eagerness to learn this trade is a pleasure for those of us who work with her. 

 Helen Reimer came to work for us in 1986.  She too was trained by Margaret & Henry and we just can't imagine coming to work each day without her presence and guidance in the sewing room.  Helen is the lady who cuts and starts the curtain projects for the workroom.  She is also the person you go to for the delicate detail work that she does just so.  

Isolde Termer is new to Canada and to the town of Plum Coulee.  We feel very fortunate to have her talents in our sewingroom.  She is working hard at learning our trade and our language.  April of 2006 was when she started and wow is she doing great work.   

Warranty and Repairs:  Randy is our go to guy for all repairs of blinds, shades, etc.  If your blinds are 10 years old or newer, you can rest assured that there will be parts, and repairs are  possible.  Anything older and he will have to rely often on his stock, which is quite extensive by the look of his work shop.  You can drop the blind off at Margaret's Draperies, Mon - Fri. from 8:am - 4:pm.  We are located at 299 Main Ave. in Plum Coulee....we would like you to call first to make sure someone will be available to assist you.  Phone 204-829-3243.

As an added customer service, Margaret's Draperies does laundering of curtains & specialty shades.  We only service shades and fabrics that have been purchased thru us.  You can drop them off at the sewing room at 299 Main Ave.in Plum Coulee, Mon - Fri. from 8:am. - 4:pm.  We do offer a pickup service too. We will re-install all laundered products. You should expect a one week delivery for this service.
